How To Invest and Preserve Your Wealth

“Ship your grain across the sea; after many days you may receive a return. Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.”
Ecclesiastes 11:1-2
Reflection:
Solomon wrote something surprising in Ecclesiastes: "You do not know what disaster may come." The man blessed with supernatural wisdom from God himself was essentially saying, "You can't predict tomorrow." That's humbling, isn't it?
His advice? "Ship your grain across the sea"—take calculated steps, but understand that returns take time. Then he adds, "invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight." Why? Because life brings unexpected storms. One ship might sink, one venture might fail, but not everything will fail at once.
God seems to build this principle right into creation. Farmers have always planted different crops in different fields. Our bodies come with backup systems—two lungs, two kidneys. The wisdom isn't complicated: don't put everything you have—money, hopes, trust—in one place.
Solomon knew that only God sees tomorrow clearly. So we do what we can with today's knowledge, spread our investments of every kind, and sleep well knowing the future doesn't depend on our perfect predictions. We plan responsibly, then trust completely.
Ask yourself:
  • What am I holding too tightly that God might be asking me to hold more loosely?
  • If one thing in my life changed tomorrow, would my faith remain steady?
