Genesis 3 introduces rebellion, and Genesis 4 shows how quickly rebellion expands from disobedience against God to violence against other human beings. A rational approach asks several questions: 1. What does the text actually say? 2. What would the original audience have understood? 3. What moral principle is being taught? 4. What are the consequences of violating that principle? 5. How does the rest of Scripture develop the theme? 6. How does the New Testament identify Christ as God's answer to the problem introduced here?
